Facebook introduces the Recommendations Bar

Facebook has, in an official post on their Developer's Blog, confirmed the launch of the Recommendations Bar. A social plug-in, the new Recommendations Bar, quite like its name suggests lets users "like" content, receive recommendations, and also share with their friends what they're reading. The way this works is that as a user is reading an article, a pop-up appears at the bottom of the screen, containing recommended articles.

The recommended articles are based on the articles that friends have liked or shared. Also, when a user likes an article that they have read using the new Recommendations Bar, the story gets published on the user's timeline, as also in their friends' news feed.  Facebook further stated that, "Sites such as Mashable, Wetpaint, and The Mirror are using the Recommendations Bar today. In early tests, sites are seeing 3x the click through on the stories it recommends than through the Recommendations Box."

Recommending articles to Like

Yesterday, reports affirmed that the social networking had amassed 50 million users in India. In one of our reports late last month, we had reported that Facebook would inform users that their names and photos could be used to promote products whenever they click to 'Like' a product. Just a while back, reports about Facebook building a smartphone began circulating and as per latest reports, a Facebook phone may come in mid-2013. Sources claim that the company has tied-up with HTC to build this phone.
